How to choose the right grapple for your mini excavator
What matters first is the weight of the machine, the type of arm connection and the hydraulic lines available.
1. Mini excavator weight and capacity
Grapples rated 400–600 kg fit mini excavators from 1.5 to 2.5 t, 1,000 kg grapples machines up to 3.5 t and 2,000–2,500 kg grapples excavators from 4 to 10 t. An oversized grapple weighs down the arm and makes the machine unstable; an undersized one wears faster.
2. Arm connection
The grapple connects to the arm through the rotator or a link bracket. If you use a quick coupler, choose the versions with a flanged rotator for quick couplers: you switch from bucket to grapple without removing the arm pins.
3. Mini excavator hydraulics
The grapple runs on the mini excavator's auxiliary circuit: light grapples work at 80–120 bar with 18–22 l/min, the largest up to 220 bar and 50 l/min. The rotator needs a second hydraulic function: check that your machine has one or that it can be added.
4. Grapples dedicated to DELEKS mini excavators
For DELEKS mini excavators there are wood and stone grapples designed for each model: the product page shows the compatible model.
5. Log grapple or sorting grapple
The log grapple is designed for logs, firewood and brushwood. The sorting grapple, rated 150 to 250 kg, is better for stones, scrap and demolition materials to be sorted, as well as timber.
| Mini excavator | Recommended grapple | Capacity | Opening |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.8–2.5 t | Sorting grapple or light log grapple | 150–600 kg | about 0.9–1.0 m |
| 1.8–3.5 t | Medium log grapple or sorting grapple | 250–1,000 kg | about 1.1–1.2 m |
| 4–8 t | Log grapple | 2,000 kg | about 1.3 m |
| 5–10 t | Heavy log grapple | 2,500 kg | about 1.6 m |
How do I know which grapple suits my mini excavator?
Start from the machine weight and compare it with the range shown on each grapple's product page; then check the arm connection and the hydraulic lines. If in doubt, tell us the make and model of your mini excavator.
Can I use the grapple with a quick coupler?
Yes, with the versions fitted with a flanged rotator for quick couplers. Otherwise the grapple mounts on the arm with a link bracket and pins.
Do I need a second hydraulic line for the rotator?
Yes: opening the grapple uses one hydraulic function and rotation another. If your mini excavator has only one auxiliary circuit, consider the grapple without rotator or adding a second line.
What is the difference between a log grapple and a sorting grapple?
The log grapple has a wide grip for logs and bundles. The sorting grapple is better for stones, scrap and materials to be sorted, and works on mini excavators from 0.8 to 3.5 t.
Looking for a shear to cut trees?
Forestry shears for mini excavators, which cut and hold trees up to 10–13 cm, have their own subcategory in this same section.
